Hands-on Lab: Game the System™ – A Proven Method to Level Up Training and Development
As you play along on the Game the System™ game board, this hands-on, gamified lab takes you through the 5-step process of adding low-tech gamification to your organizations training and development programs. Upon completion of this lab, participants will be able to:

  • Define their measurable business objectives and determine how gamification will help them to achieve their objective

  • Weave a story or theme to make the training stickable – so that players remember facts and transfer skills to real world scenarios

  • Create the right mix of ingredients and next steps in their learning activities to allow the participants to acquire knowledge and skill

  • Identify the game elements (points, badges, leaderboards, etc.) and game mechanics (chance, competition, collaboration, rewards, etc.) they will use

  • Construct a consistent, attractive - even charming and captivating - cohesiveness that ties the entire project together

  • Answer the question:  Is it fun?

When the Game the System™ 5-step process is orchestrated effectively, learning goals are achieved with maximum effectiveness and impact. Our brains thrive on such stimulation. In fact, the Game the System™ method is learning at its best.

Hands-on Lab: Actionable Gamification: The Octalysis Framework
While talks on theory and the promise of Gamification are proliferating, very few of them provide the necessary tools to turn knowledge into action that deliver a strong Return on Investment for companies. As a Gamification Pioneer and International Keynote Speaker (Stanford, TEDx, SxSW, Accenture), Yu-Kai Chou explains the reason why so many gamification campaigns fail and introduces the Complete Gamification Framework: Octalysis to use as a tool to implement Gamification design for any experience. Octalysis is based on the premise that just having “game elements” does not necessarily make something fun, which is why most games are not successful. Instead of focusing on game elements like PBLs (Points, Badges, and Leaderboards), Octalysis breaks down motivation into 8 Core Drives that compel and motivate people to engage and learn through game techniques. In this Lab, you'll learn how you can apply the Octalysis process to your project or company.
